To AI or not to AI

I got an email last week from someone stuck on this exact question: should they let AI write their social content, or is that just .... fake?

They felt torn. Using AI felt disingenuous. But they also didn't feel like a "good writer" either.

Honestly? I get it. I have this same struggle. The thoughts in my head are usually pretty solid - but getting them OUT clearly is a different story. Some days it flows. Other days what comes out of my fingers is the same jumbled mess it was in my head.

Here's what I told them, and what I actually believe.

I don't care who (or what) writes the content. All I care about is the message.

If the idea, the opinion, the insight - that's yours - and AI just helps you say it more clearly? That's not fake. That's called utilizing your resources.

Where it falls apart and we end up with slop is when AI is doing BOTH jobs - coming up with the idea AND writing it. That's when content turns into noise. You can feel it too. It's generic, it's soulless, and it's the reason people are getting AI fatigue on this very platform.

Sure, there are exceptions - like when AI is used to summarize or rehash something already being discussed. That has its place. But the good stuff, the fresh takes, the ideas actually worth stopping to read? Those still come from a person.

So my answer to "should I use AI to write my content" is simple.

Did the idea come from you? If so, let AI help you say it better if you need it to. Just don't let it think for you.
